What we think, written down.

Technical arguments about problems we keep running into. They are not sales material and they do not conclude by recommending us — read them, disagree with them, use them.

    Common Scripting Challenges

Script problems in airline simulator training are rarely one-off errors; the same ones recur across operators, OEM content and third-party material. This reference catalogues fourteen recurring challenges under five themes, with the training impact and root cause of each. It argues that most trace back to unstructured authoring and weak quality assurance rather than any lack of knowledge.

Gaps Between the Simulator and Line Environments

Even a high-fidelity simulator cannot reproduce fatigue, an unfamiliar first-sector partner, intrusive interruptions, commercial pressure or the weight of real consequence. This paper maps where the two environments diverge. It argues that simulator performance is necessary but not sufficient evidence of line readiness, and that scenario design and deliberate debriefing are the main levers for narrowing the gap.

Attributes of Effective Flight Simulator Training Scripts

Most script defects only surface once a session is under way, when fixing them costs instructor attention. This paper sets out what a script needs before release: training effectiveness, operational realism, usability under workload, integrated reference material, and parity between print and screen. It closes with a pre-publication checklist built on one principle: a good script reduces instructor workload rather than adding to it.

    Document Authority Hierarchy

Crews fly the operator’s AOM, QRH and SOPs, yet those documents bind only because every tier above them approved or constrained them. This reference model maps that chain from ICAO through the regulator, OEM and operator. It turns the chain into registration rules so that a revised FCOM or an amended CASS standard can be traced down to the script events it affects.
