Software for airline training departments.

Software we built for our own training work and now make available. The trainers run in a browser with nothing to install; SimDirector runs on the instructor's iPad or Mac; exams are written online or on paper.

Procedures trainer

B777 FMS Trainer

A working 777 CDU and mode control panel for procedures practice away from the simulator. Crews work the FMC the way it works on the aeroplane — preflight, route entry, departures and arrivals, holds, fixes, performance — with an instructor panel that sets the starting conditions and moves the aeroplane along the route.

  • Type 777-300 · GE90-115B
  • Pages IDENT, POS INIT/REF, PERF INIT, THRUST LIM, TAKEOFF REF, RTE 1/2, RTE DATA, LEGS, HOLD, DEP/ARR, FIX INFO, NAV RADIO, PROGRESS, ALTN, APPROACH REF, ECON CLB/CRZ
  • Nav data AIRAC-cycled — worldwide waypoints and navaids, full procedures for the airports in your network
  • Routes Company routes published beside the trainer, no rebuild required
  • Instructor Parking position, fuel, OAT, ADIRU, aircraft power, air/ground sensing, groundspeed and time rate, freeze and reset
  • Platform Browser — nothing to install
  • Deployment Hosted, or on infrastructure you control

Procedures trainer

A220 FMS Trainer

A working model of the A220 flight management system for procedures practice away from the simulator. Crews can rehearse initialization, flight plan entry, performance, and the sequences that consume simulator time when they are learned in the box instead of before it.

  • Type A220
  • Displays PFD, MFD map and plan, FMS pages — DBASE, POS, FPLN, PERF, ROUTE, LEGS, VIA/TO, POS REPORT, FLT LOG
  • Panels Tuning control panel, flight control panel, multifunction keyboard, gear, flap and thrust levers
  • Nav data AIRAC-cycled
  • Scenarios Scenario builder for instructor and student exercises — starting state, atmosphere, FMS at start, uplinks, events, locked controls, expected outcome
  • Platform Browser — nothing to install
  • Deployment Hosted, or on infrastructure you control

Procedures trainer

ACARS/CPDLC Trainer

A model of your airline's ACARS and CPDLC interfaces for practising the message sequences crews use in normal operation — requests, uplinks, and the downlink formats that are easy to get wrong under time pressure and rarely get dedicated training time.

Do not spend simulator time teaching crews to work ACARS and CPDLC. Line indoctrination is busy enough for the IOE training captain or TRI as it is. Trainees who have worked the datalink interface here arrive confident and competent, and the session is spent on the aircraft.

  • Types A220, A320, A330, B737, B767, B777
  • CPDLC Logon and status, level, route, speed and clearance requests, when-can-we-expect, voice contact, free text, position and emergency reports, ATC-requested reports, conditional clearances
  • Modelled Datalink MFD, CDU, flight deck printer
  • Platform Browser — nothing to install
  • Deployment Hosted, or on infrastructure you control

Instructor tool

SimDirector

An iPad and Mac app that puts the simulator script and all the session timing tools on one screen. It runs the preflight countdown and airborne clock, alerts the instructor when each crew message is due (the PDC, load messages and the airborne message), and lets them drive the session with buttons built into the script itself. Every session's timing is logged, building a history of how long each part of a scenario really takes.

  • Scripts Opens the session script as a PDF, with session controls built into the page
  • Timers Planned start and end, preflight window, session elapsed, preflight remaining, airborne clock
  • Messages PDC, provisional load, confirmed load, airborne — timed to scheduled pushback or the takeoff mark, each switchable per session
  • Markers Preflight check, pushback, engine start, taxi out, takeoff, top of climb, cruise, descent, approach, landing
  • History Every session logged to a timeline of how long each phase actually took
  • Platform iPad and Mac

Assessment

Flight Operations Exams

Written exams for each stage of a pilot's training: screening at selection, initial pilot training, type rating courses and recurrent training. We build the question bank to your syllabus and your operation, and every answer is referenced to its source document so the bank can be audited.

Exams are written online, on an iPad or in a browser, or on printed papers. Each candidate gets a paper drawn at random from the bank, balanced across subjects and difficulty. After each sitting we analyse how every question performed, and flag the ones that are too easy, too hard, or that do not separate stronger candidates from weaker ones, so the bank improves with use.

  • Stages Selection screening, initial training, type rating, recurrent
  • Question banks Built to your syllabus and operating procedures; subjects and difficulty set per exam
  • References Every answer cited to its source document — regulator, manufacturer or operator
  • Delivery Online on iPad or in a browser, or as printed papers
  • Exam papers Drawn at random per candidate, balanced across subjects and difficulty
  • Analysis Difficulty and discrimination for each question, distractor review, overall reliability
  • Hosting On our servers or yours

Built for our own work first

These tools came out of engagements where the available option was a static handout. We built them because we needed them, which means they model the parts crews actually get wrong rather than the parts that are easy to model.

If you need something similar for a type we do not cover, ask — purpose-built tooling is part of what we do.
